Resignation of Marshal Zhukov, 1957.
Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov is an outstanding commander of the twentieth century, a living symbol of our Victory.
His fame was so great that it seemed that nothing and no one could overthrow him from this pedestal of national love and respect.
But in 1957, at the October plenum of the CPSU Central Committee, the marshal was charged with underestimating the party-political work in the army, with a pro-Western approach to the construction of the armed forces, and by Khrushchev's personal order Marshal Zhukov was removed from the Central Committee and relieved of ministerial duties.
Since the late 50s, historiographers have stopped mentioning the name of the disgraced marshal, the press was silent about him.
The leadership of the country did everything to put the name of the great commander into oblivion.
Chief of Marshal's personal security Sergey Markov, Marshal's daughter Ella Zhukova, military historian Georgy Kumanev are visiting the program.
The chronicle was used in the preparation of the issue: Zhukov's funeral on June 21, 1974; the plenum of the CPSU Central Committee on October 29, 1957; Eisenhower, Khrushchev and Zhukov at talks in Geneva in July 1955.
